If you have parathyroid hyperplasia because of kidney disease or a calcium or vitamin D deficiency, your doctor may recommend supplements or medicine to restore healthy parathyroid function.

Surgeons remove most of the glands, except for a small portion. They place this tissue in your forearm or neck, so it’s easy to access if your symptoms return. This implanted gland tissue ensures your body produces enough parathyroid hormone.
