Norah Terrault, MD, MPH, FAASLD, is shaping how the hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are treated nationally and internationally through her leadership and groundbreaking research in the field.
Dr. Terrault coedited Zakim and Boyer’s Hepatology: A Textbook of Liver Disease, 7thedition. She has written more than 330 peer-reviewed manuscripts, editorial and invited reviews, along with United States national guidelines for treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C. She recently was elected senior councilor on the executive committee of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and will serve as AASLD president in 2023.
In addition to HBV, HCV and NASH, Dr. Terrault’s research interests include fatty liver, cirrhosis and liver transplantation. She has led multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded studies, including the HBV Clinical Research Network (CRN) and NASH CRN.
A dedicated educator, she founded ECHO-Plus, a telementoring program that trains and supports primary care physicians in California in treating patients with hepatitis.
Dr. Terrault grew up in Canada and has lived in California for more than two decades. Away from work, she enjoys hiking, cycling and travel.
