J. Martin Heur, MD, PhD, specializes in corneal transplantation and diseases of the cornea and the external eye.
Among his research priorities is corneal endothelial wound healing. The endothelium is a single layer of delicate cells on the inner aspect of the cornea that helps maintain hydration and nutrition. His ultimate goal is to leverage research insights for developing new treatment strategies for corneal endothelial disease.
Dr. Heur’s investigations have gained support from organizations such as the National Eye Institute, Research to Prevent Blindness, the Baxter Foundation, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Fight for Sight and the Knights Templar Eye Foundation.
“I was inspired to become an ophthalmologist by the eye surgeries I observed as a medical student; the surgeries were elegant, and the patients did so well afterward.
I strive to bring a true patient-centered care to my practice. The most important aspect of my relationship with patients is continuity of care."
