Careful Evaluation and Treatment for Cerebrospinal Fluid Hypotension

Your brain and spinal cord are bathed and padded with a liquid called cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This fluid is contained by the dura, the outermost membrane surrounding the brain, spinal cord and nerve roots. CSF may escape the dura from tears in the dura, irregularities in the dura or abnormal connections to veins. When your CSF pressure is too low (hypotension), it may not properly support your brain and spinal cord. When this happens, you might commonly experience headaches that get worse when you sit up or stand. You may also develop nausea, neck pain, blurred or double vision, in addition to more uncommon neurological symptoms.

Our team provides a careful and comprehensive evaluation to diagnose your CSF hypotension. We use specialized MRI testing and other diagnostic tools to identify the underlying causes of your CSF hypotension. Our multidisciplinary team works together to design a treatment plan tailored to your unique care needs and symptoms.

We are experienced in treating all types of CSF hypotension, from mild or temporary cases to more complex and persistent conditions. Our doctors offer the latest treatment therapies, including blood patch procedures, neurosurgery and specialized care from ear, nose and throat and radiology physicians.
