Our Sarcoma and Melanoma Surgery Program team provides comprehensive care for patients with these rare and often challenging cancers. Led by experienced and knowledgeable surgeons, our team specializes in treating sarcoma and melanoma, from early to advanced disease.
For patients with sarcoma, we routinely perform complex surgeries on tumors throughout the body, including the limbs, trunk and back of the abdomen (retroperitoneum). For patients with melanoma, our surgeons perform wide local excision, often in combination with lymph node biopsy or dissection, depending on the patient’s unique situation. Our team also provides palliative surgery to relieve severe symptoms in select patients with advanced or metastatic sarcoma or melanoma.
We are a nationally recognized referral center for sarcoma and melanoma and provide care for patients from Southern California, the United States and the world.
Our state-of-the-art surgical care is individualized to each patient. We strive to balance appropriately aggressive cancer surgery to provide the best long-term outcome while minimizing potential complications and preserving or improving quality of life. When determining a patient’s treatment plan, we incorporate extensive experience and evidence-based knowledge about these cancers, their behavior and expected outcomes.
When appropriate, our surgeons also integrate surgery with other treatments as part our commitment to comprehensive cancer care. These nonsurgical treatments may include systemic therapy (chemotherapy, targeted therapy or immunotherapy) or radiation therapy. We regularly bring together a team of experts from surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology and pathology to determine the optimal treatment approach for each of our patients.
