About Philip D. Lumb, MD
Dr. Lumb held a number of distinguished academic and administrative appointments at prestigious medical facilities prior to establishing his career at the University of Southern California. Former positions include vice chairman and associate professor of anesthesiology at Duke University, chairman and professor of anesthesiology at Albany Medical College and chairman and Eric A. Walter Professor of Anesthesiology at Penn State-Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Other notable previous appointments include president and secretary-general of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine and chancellor and secretary general at the American College of Critical Care Medicine. By receiving the Handcock Prize of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Hilmer Burchardi Award from the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Lumb has been honored for his devotion to the science and practice of anesthesia. He is a member of several renowned professional societies, including the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine and is fluent in French.
