Niels Kokot, MD, is an expert in transoral robotic surgery, a minimally invasive technique that avoids the need for traditional open surgery and results in quicker recovery. He also specializes in microvascular reconstructive surgery, and head and neck cancer surgery, including management of tumors in the mouth, voice box, throat, skull base, salivary glands and thyroid. His goal at all times is to provide optimal cure rates balanced with quality of life after treatment.
Dr. Kokot’s research interests include improving the outcomes and cost-effectiveness of head and neck surgery, along with new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques for the parotid (salivary) gland. He has been named a Top Doctor several years in a row by Los Angeles Magazine and Pasadena Magazine.
Growing up, he wanted to play professional baseball but decided to pursue science and medicine. Away from work, Dr. Kokot loves spending time with his wife, son and daughter.
“I listen closely to patients to understand their needs and optimize their care. I personalize the treatment plan based on each patient’s individual needs, including their preferences.
I find it rewarding to be able to guide patients through their complete head and neck cancer care. That includes surgery and their immediate postoperative period, as well as their long-term recovery. I pay attention to their entire rehabilitative needs in terms of speech, swallowing and physical activity.”
