Comprehensive Treatment for All Types of Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye condition that damages your optic nerve. It is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Glaucoma damages the nerve that connects the eye and brain, resulting in vision loss. The condition affects your side vision (peripheral vision) first, so early on, you may not have any symptoms. The sooner you are diagnosed and treated the greater the chances of saving your vision.

Glaucoma Conditions We Treat:

Our eye experts use the most advanced treatment techniques for every type of glaucoma, including:

  • Open-angle — This is the most common type of glaucoma. There are many causes, including high eye pressure, older age and poor blood flow to the eye. However, open-angle glaucoma also occurs with normal eye pressure. Subtypes of open-angle glaucoma include pigment dispersion and steroid-induced glaucoma.
  • Angle-closure — This type of glaucoma is caused by a sudden and severe increase in intraocular pressure due to the iris blocking the drainage angle. Angle-closure glaucoma can be a medical emergency and may result in rapid vision loss. Symptoms can include severe eye pain, headaches, blurred vision and halos around lights.
  • Neovascular — An eye condition where new blood vessels grow in your retina and angle and can lead to rapid and dramatic vision loss
  • Uveitic — An eye condition that affects the tissue in the middle layer of the eye wall (uvea) and is caused by infection, injury or inflammatory disease

Glaucoma Symptoms

Glaucoma can affect anyone, but if you are over age 60 or have a family history of glaucoma, you are at higher risk. When glaucoma first begins, you may not experience any symptoms. But over time, as the disease progresses, you’ll begin to lose your peripheral vision.

Symptoms of glaucoma include:

  • Blurred vision
  • Gradual loss of peripheral vision
  • Increased sensitivity to glare
  • Seeing halos around lights
  • Tunnel vision

By the time your symptoms become noticeable, significant damage to the optic nerve may have occurred. This is why regular eye checkups are important, especially if you are over age 40.
