New Blood Pressure Guidelines

Your Keck physicians, always on the cutting edge of healthcare, would like to make you aware of new national recommendations regarding blood pressure and cholesterol management intended to keep you healthier than ever.

New blood pressure guidelines may affect how your blood pressure and cholesterol are managed*. These directives are based on the ten years of groundbreaking research. This may mean an increase or decrease in the number or the strength of the medications.
The new high blood pressure recommendation is to keep your blood pressure less than 140/90. This goal may change depending on your age, or other medical conditions. The new cholesterol guidelines have been simplified by not focusing on the LDL (bad) cholesterol, but on reducing your risk of heart disease or stroke.

Our Keck primary care physicians are happy to have a consultation with you to discuss how these guideline changes can improve your health. Please call (800) USC-CARE, or (800) 872-2273 to make an appointment. We are conveniently located in La Canada Flintridge, Pasadena, Downtown LA, Beverly Hills, the Keck Medical Center of USC Health Sciences Campus (HCCII building) and the USC University Park Campus.

*New guidelines produced by the Eighth Joint National Committee known as the JNC 8 and new cholesterol guidelines endorsed by The American College of Cardiology and The American Heart Association.
