Our surgeons and specialists help you achieve lasting weight loss and metabolic health with surgical, endoscopic and long-term support options.
Obesity is a chronic disease, and lasting results come from care built around you. At Keck Medicine of USC, our team of bariatric surgeons, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, dietitians and behavioral health specialists works together to create a plan that fits your health needs, goals and lifestyle.
Depending on your needs, your plan may include bariatric surgery, endoscopic weight-loss procedures, weight-loss medication, nutrition counseling, or a combination, along with long-term support to help you maintain your progress.
Our surgeons perform the complete range of weight-loss surgery, including the two most common and well-studied procedures: sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. We use minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic-assisted techniques, which means smaller incisions, less pain and a faster return to daily life for most patients.
Bariatric surgery is the most effective long-term treatment for severe obesity and can improve or resolve related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea.
We also care for patients who have had weight-loss surgery elsewhere and are experiencing weight regain, reflux or other complications. Our surgeons specialize in revisional surgery, and our bariatric endoscopy team offers nonsurgical options, such as endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and transoral outlet reduction, for patients who want or need an alternative to surgery.
Weight-loss surgery is a starting point, not a finish line. Our team supports you at every stage, from preparing for surgery to maintaining your results for years afterward.
Before surgery, you’ll meet with our dietitians, behavioral health specialists and medical team to make sure you’re ready, physically and emotionally. After surgery, you’ll have regular follow-up visits, nutrition classes and access to support groups led by our psychologists and dietitians, so you can build lasting habits with people who understand what you’re going through.
Our bariatric surgery program includes a support group for patients. Support groups are run by a psychologist, program coordinator or dietitian.
In a support group, you’ll find people who have similar wellness goals, want to celebrate your successes, and support you in challenging times. Support groups are devoted to these common experiences, so you can share your feelings in a safe environment.
Keck Medicine of USC support groups are held 6-7 p.m. at: 1520 San Pablo St., HC2 Los Angeles, CA 90033-4612 Lower Level Boardroom 1304
