Jim Kim, MD, specializes in pancreas, kidney, and liver transplantation and laparoscopic living-donor nephrectomies. He performed the first single-incision laparoscopic donor nephrectomy at Keck Medicine and primarily uses this technique for all living kidney donors.
Dr. Kim has received several research honors, including the Resident Research Award from the Association of Academic Surgeons and the Julia Burke Research Award. His interests include allorecognition and mechanisms of rejection, and donor factors as they relate to transplant outcomes. He has been an invited lecturer, published in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to book chapters, and has given frequent presentations at medical conferences.
Dr. Kim is board certified in General Surgery. He completed his Multi-Organ Abdominal Transplantation fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Prior to joining Keck Medicine, he was appointed assistant professor of surgery at the New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. His practice involved multi-organ transplantations, as well as complex dialysis access procedures.
