Fernando Fleischman, MD, is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with expertise in minimally invasive endovascular techniques and innovations. He treats a variety of aortic diseases, including aneurysm, dissection and genetic disorders, but his clinical interests cross all aspects of cardiothoracic surgery, from valve disease to heart failure treatments.
In his research, Dr. Fleischman is helping to push the boundaries of aortic surgery and less-invasive endovascular surgery. In addition, he studies ways to improve long-term aortic surgery outcomes and aortic syndrome prediction models. His publications include topics such as management of aortic emergencies during the COVID-19 pandemic, aortic dissection and aortic valve replacement.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Fleischman moved to Los Angeles at 3 years old and grew up in Sherman Oaks. He is a dedicated soccer fan and roots for Real Madrid, a Spanish professional football club.
Dr. Fleischman decided to become a physician, because he wanted to combine a fascination for science with a human connection. He chose cardiac surgery for its complexity.
My philosophy begins and ends with patient-centered care. All plans, all decisions, must be made with the patient’s interests and patient’s voice front and center. The doctor and the patient are true teammates in care.
I work hard to ensure that I find the best treatment profile for each individual patient.
