Keck Medicine of USC was the proud sponsor of the Sarcoma Foundation of America’s 5K “Race to Cure Sarcoma Los Angeles” held on Nov. 2 in Griffith Park. The team of runners, led by Dr. Mark Agulnik, an oncologist with Keck Medicine specializing in sarcoma, was the top fundraiser of the day, raising more than $11,000 for sarcoma research and education. Altogether, the event raised some $80,000.

“It was inspiring to see so many team members running for the cause, including our staff, their families and former patients,” said Agulnik. “This is the first year Keck Medicine sponsored the event, and we are proud that our efforts will help fund more effective treatments for this often devastating cancer.”

Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that develops in the bone and connective tissue. Keck Medicine’s sarcoma program brings together specialists from orthopedic surgery, surgery, radiation and medical oncology, pathology and musculoskeletal radiology to deliver multidisciplinary care for patients.
