Keck Medicine of USC and USC supporters join USC Interim President Beong-Soo Kim and Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo during the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the grand opening of Keck Medicine’s new medical office building in Pasadena.

The newest addition to the renowned health system is the largest and most advanced outpatient location

Six years in the making.

Three years of construction.

One beautiful, four-story, state-of-the-art medical office building.

On Oct. 3, 2025, Keck Medicine of USC introduced its largest and most advanced outpatient location to the Pasadena community, 590 S. Fair Oaks Ave., with a ribbon-cutting event hosted by Keck Medicine leaders.

The new Pasadena location offers more than 15 different clinical specialties under one roof and more than doubles Keck Medicine’s capacity to deliver care in Pasadena.

Bringing world-class services to the community

“From when we first envisioned this project, our mission was to provide comprehensive care for the many patients, alumni, staff and residents who live and work in Pasadena and the surrounding San Gabriel Valley area,” Keck Medicine CEO Rod Hanners said as he welcomed a crowd of some 200 attendees. “We are proud to have the health system more visible and integrated into this community.”

Guests included USC Interim President Beong-Soo Kim, Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo and other Pasadena leaders, Keck Medicine leaders, and donors, alumni, board members and trustees from across the university and health system.

Mayor Gordo addressed the audience, enthusiastically welcoming the expansion of Keck Medicine services in Pasadena and giving leaders a congratulatory city proclamation.

“Today is a great day for USC, Keck Medicine and Pasadena,” he said. Pasadena is a special place, he continued, home to California Institute of Technology, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Art Center College of Design. “And now we have Keck Medicine. So if you want the best medical care for yourself and your loved ones, go to Keck Medicine right at California and Fair Oaks.”

Kim also spoke, linking the new building to the larger mission of USC. “This new location will not only provide our community with excellent clinical care, it brings something else, the X factor, because as part of an academic enterprise, Keck Medicine is also bringing the strengths and spirit of the University of Southern California. This means that patients will not only benefit from extraordinary clinical care, but also from a drive to innovate, which generates new therapies and treatments.”

Rounding out the speakers was Steven Shapiro, MD, senior vice president for health affairs of USC Health. “We are thrilled to bring our outstanding, compassionate clinical care and cutting edge technology to the area,” said Shapiro. “We are also proud to join the emerging bio-tech/biomedical corridor in Pasadena that is transforming the city, and to bring medical residents, interns and students to this location under the close supervision of our world-class physicians.”

The ribbon cutting and other event highlights

Representatives from U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger both gave proclamations to Keck Medicine for its contribution to the community.

After the speeches, the speakers were joined on stage for the official ribbon cutting by several USC and health system leaders and trustees, who were each given an individual pair of scissors.

The event ended with tours of the building.

The Pasadena medical office is the newest addition to Keck Medicine’s renowned health system that includes four hospitals and more than 100 unique clinics in Southern and Central California and beyond. Patients can access many of the same expert physicians who treat patients at Keck Medical Center of USC, including specialists with USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, USC Cardiac and Vascular Institute and USC Orthopedic Surgery

Keck Medicine will continue to provide patients with complementary clinical services across the street at the existing location, 625 S. Fair Oaks Ave. in Pasadena.
