Advanced orthopedic care to help you move with confidence.
Orthopedic at USC Arcadia Hospital is part of USC Orthopaedic, offering comprehensive care for any issues related to bones, muscles, tendons, nerves, or joints. Our team of experts is dedicated to providing high-quality orthopedic services, utilizing an interdisciplinary approach and advanced surgical techniques to ensure the best outcomes for our patients, even in emergency situations.
In addition to offering a broad variety of traditional orthopedic procedures, our skilled surgeons provide minimally-invasive techniques for the major joints in the body as well as for injuries to the bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. A minimally invasive procedure involves a small incision to repair the injury or damage and can lessen the pain experienced by a patient as well as shorter patient recovery times. Patients going through this type of procedure to the hip or knee are often able to walk the same day of their surgery.
Whether you are having a traditional or minimally invasive surgery, by beginning the rehabilitation process as soon as possible we find our patients recover more quickly and can get back to the life activities they enjoy much sooner.
Care for both inpatient and outpatient orthopedic procedures begins before the patient is admitted to the hospital. Pre-surgical education, care coordination, and rehabilitation planning are provided by our caring and knowledgeable staff. Our compassionate nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and dietary staff will support and educate you as you move through your recovery.

USC Arcadia Hospital participates in a Medicare initiative called Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR). The CJR initiative is a model that aims to promote quality and financial accountability for care surrounding lower-extremity joint replacement (LEJR) procedures. These LEJR procedures are commonly referred to as total hip/ total knee/ total ankle replacements and hip fracture surgeries with hemiarthroplasty or bipolar hips.
USC Arcadia Hospital’s participation in the CJR model should not restrict your access to care or your freedom to choose your health care providers and services. All existing Medicare beneficiary protections continue to be available to you. These include the ability to report concerns regarding substandard care to quality improvement organizations by calling 1-800-MEDICARE.
USC Arcadia Hospital has entered into financial arrangements with collaborating physicians (and potentially other health care providers) who are engaged in care redesign with the hospital and who may furnish healthcare services to Medicare beneficiaries during an episode of care. Under these agreements, the hospital may share payments received from Medicare as a result of savings achieved through reduced episode spending and hospital internal cost savings. The hospital may also share financial accountability for increased episode spending with collaborating providers and suppliers. The current list below represents those physicians and other healthcare providers that have executed a CJR Collaborator agreement with the hospital enabling each to share in financial rewards and/or losses under the CJR model:
The opportunity to participate as a CJR Collaborator is established in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations, including applicable fraud and abuse laws and all applicable payment and coverage requirements as defined under the CJR program. Participation as a CJR Collaborator is not based on patient volume or value of referrals or business otherwise generated by any CJR Collaborator.
The following criteria are utilized in the selection process of any physician to become a CJR Collaborator:
The USC Arcadia Hospital Pre-Operative Joint Replacement Class provides patients review of joint replacement surgery, discussion on the risks and benefits of surgery, and an overview of “Getting Ready for Surgery.”
Virtual classes are available via Teams and in-person classes are held at Lewis Hall. Please register at least 2 weeks before your surgery date, due to limited class space. Please visit the events page. For any questions, please email: JointProgram@med.usc.edu.
The following resources are intended to only provide basic information. They are not intended to be all-inclusive information for your surgery. Each surgeon will have their specific instructions for your individual surgery. Please contact your surgeon directly to discuss your specific questions.

When physical therapy, medication, and other conservative measures are proved ineffective in treating joint pain, patients may choose to undergo a total joint replacement. USC Arcadia Hospital’s Hip and Knee Center in LA County is a dedicated program within the hospital that offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment of arthritis and joint pain. For patients who experience chronic pain that prevents them from exercising, walking, leisure activities, or even working, joint replacement could be what they need to regain independence and resume their day-to-day life.
A total joint replacement is a big surgery and one you should only agree to after learning what it involves and what it can accomplish. We educate our patients before their surgery and provide them with a 100-page guidebook about joint replacement and its aftermath. This guide includes a list of questions and answers, easy exercises for post-op recovery, instructions on how to heal after surgery, and anything else you need to know to make a complete recovery and return home. We also encourage patients to talk to the staff so they can address any concerns or anxieties.
We have developed a unique “team” approach to join treat replacement. Many patients have shown to have an easier time preparing and recovering from joint replacement after talking with others going through a similar experience. Taking that into consideration, we provide our patients with a peer support group. At the start of each week, a new group of patients is scheduled for surgery and are given a chance to meet and speak with each other as they move through each stage of the operation.
In addition to the peer support group, your joint replacement team will include:
Our joint replacement program has received extremely high marks in patient satisfaction thanks to our incredible support system, the personal attention each patient receives, and the thorough education we provide patients before the procedure. With the expertise available at USC Arcadia Hospital, there is no need to suffer from joint problems. We know that recovery from joint problems is a journey, and we will fully support you every step of the way.

At USC Arcadia Hospital, we make sure that you are taken care of every step of the way through spinal surgery preparation and recovery. Spinal surgery is not recommended lightly – our team thoroughly examines a patient’s condition and considers all treatment options before recommending surgery. When it is deemed that back surgery is your best bet for pain relief, we will take every measure to ensure the procedure is safe and successful. Thousands of spine surgeries are performed in the United States each year. These are not uncommon operations, and our experienced orthopedists know what patients need to feel relaxed and recover faster.
Back pain can be hard to deal with. Your entire body relies on your back for motion, making it very difficult to avoid activities that exacerbate the pain. When less invasive means fail to treat the condition, spinal surgery may provide the relive you’re looking for.
Spinal surgery is not as difficult as it may sound. Pain usually radiates from one section of the spine, meaning the surgeon will not need to make too large of an incision to reach the affected area.
The following are spinal conditions that often require surgery:
Whatever spinal condition you are dealing with, our team will tell you what can be done to treat it and whether or not surgery is your best option. Before an operation, you will be thoroughly educated on what to expect, how to prepare, and treatments that will speed your recovery. Prescribing surgery is only the first step, you can count on us to act as your partners throughout this process.
At USC Arcadia Hospital, orthopaedic services are about helping people achieve the highest level of function with as little pain as possible. We understand that most people want to avoid surgery if they can, and while an operation can be an effective solution, we prioritize more conservative measures and only recommend open surgery when other means prove insufficient.
Many orthopaedic conditions can be successfully treated with medication and physical therapy. In some cases, even intense pain will go away on its own over time and all a patient requires is relief in the interim.
Some conservative measures that can help with orthopaedic conditions including:
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive orthopaedic surgery used to treat joint damage and pain. Minimally invasive procedures are operations that only involve small incisions and allow for faster recovery-many even allow the patient to return home the same day of the surgery. In an arthroscopic procedure, the surgeon only needs to make a small incision near the affected joint and operate on the area using small instruments.
These operations are performed using an arthroscope, a small, tube-shaped camera that is inserted in the area and displays the joint muscle and ligaments on a monitor. Using this live feed as a guide, the surgeon can perform the operation without cutting the area completely open.
Arthroscopic surgery is frequently used to treat:
Arthroscopy is a preferred treatment method by most orthopedists. It is especially useful in sports medicine as it allows the athlete to return to the field faster than going through physical therapy or recovering from open surgery.
Be aware that while recovery is shorter, you should not instantly jump back into regular activity after arthroscopic surgery. Let the area heal for a few weeks as you ease it back into normal activities.
