Frequently asked questions concerning the USC Verdugo Hills Hospital outpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation services transition.

In the coming months, the PMR services will transition from USC Verdugo Hills Hospital to an OT/PT clinical service at a Glendale Community College (GCC) Montrose facility (former PDC building). Continue reading for answers for key questions addressing the transition.

Why is USC Verdugo Hills Hospital (USC VHH) closing its Outpatient Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR)?

Moving PMR services offsite frees up critical ED space for patient care, reduces congestion in the ED, allowing for expansion and improved patient flow.

USC VHH will bring in SPECT-CT; enhancing diagnostic capabilities within the hospital to improve accuracy and speed of imaging, reduce delays, and support better clinical decisions.

USC VHH will also expand its inpatient pharmacy, ensuring timely medicated delivery for growing patient volumes to support ED and inpatient growth by reducing medication turnaround times and improving patient safety.

What will happen with the PMR services?

PMR services within the community will continue and be strengthened through Glendale Community College’s (GCC) collaboration with the University of Southern California (USC). PMR services will move to GCC Montrose facility (former PDC building) for the purpose of OT/PT clinical services.

What does the collaboration between GCC and USC entail?

There will be collaboration to develop GCC Allied Health programs with support from USC, and a joint use facility agreement with GCC and USC. This will include a clinical floor to support the community provided through USC Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy faculty clinics, educational floor for GCC program offerings and faculty offices, and student clinical rotations will be conducted on the clinical floor.

Where will the Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) Faculty Practice clinic be located?

2340 Honolulu Avenue (former Professional Development Center (PDC) building)

When will the PT and OT Faculty Practice Clinic open?

The clinic is set to open July 1, 2026.

Who will the clinic be operated by?

USC Divisions of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy

What are the anticipated clinic hours?

Monday-Friday 7:00am-7:00pm

What will the parking be like at the new clinic?

Current parking within the PDC building lot will accommodate all patients.

What is happening with the classes offered at USC VHH?

The Fall Proof and Get Up & Go classes will continue at USC VHH.

When will the future GCC Montrose Campus (future home of GCC Allied Health Program and PT/OT faculty programs) be ready?

Construction is anticipated in 2029-2031 and the GCC Allied Health Facility is anticipated to open around 2031.

Where will the future GCC Allied Health Program and PT/OT faculty clinics be located?

2350 Honolulu Avenue (former Citibank building)

What will the GCC Montrose Campus include?

Learning spaces (lecture, lab), clinical spaces, community spaces

Can I continue receiving lymphedema treatment at the new USC Facility?

Yes, we have both physical therapists and occupational therapists that specialize in managing lymphedema at the Montrose location. 

How will patient scheduling work during the transition?

As we begin scheduling through the new system, our current team will continue tracking patients who need appointments to help ensure a smooth transition.

How can I ensure continuity of care and keep my appointments on track throughout the transition?

USC Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy will work with Verdugo Hills Hospital to transition all appointments and care plans for existing patients. 

Will my insurance be accepted at the new facility?

USC Physical Therapy and USC Occupational Therapy Faculty Practice bill under the USC CARE tax id. We accept Most insurance plans, including Medicare.
