USC Verdugo Hills Hospital (USC-VHH) received a three-year term accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for being an accredited facility in echocardiography in the area of adult transthoracic echocardiogram. A transthoracic echocardiogram is a non-invasive ultrasound that examines and takes pictures of the heart.
This accreditation means that the hospital has undergone an intensive application and review process and has been found to demonstrate a commitment to quality patient care in echocardiography. The process was a result of a detailed self-evaluation by the hospital, followed by a thorough safety standard review by a panel of medical experts.
“I am very proud of this IAC accreditation, which is a seal of approval patients can count on,” said Armand H. Dorian, MD, MMM, CEO of USC-VHH. “From the training and experience of the sonographer performing the test to the equipment to patient outcomes, patients know they can expect consistent quality care from us.”Echocardiography is used to assess different areas of the heart and can detect heart disease or signs of serious cardiovascular conditions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States.
The IAC is a nonprofit organization that evaluates and accredits facilities that provide diagnostic imaging and interventional-based procedures, thus improving the quality of patient care provided in private offices, clinics and hospitals where such services are performed.
