Tam Au, MD/MPH is a resident physician at the Keck Medicine Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Au grew up in Little Saigon, CA where she developed a love for Vietnamese food and TVB dramas. A proud child of Vietnamese immigrants, she believes in partnering with and uplifting marginalized communities like her own. She remembers struggling to translate and advocate for her parents at medical appointments. She aims to provide patients and their families with a sense of comfort and shared understanding that was sometimes missing in her own healthcare experiences.
In college, she ventured a few miles over to UCLA and spent two gap years immersed in the public health and teaching worlds. Over time, she realized that family medicine would best combine her passions for human connection and community building. She returned to UCLA to earn her medical degree through the PRIME-Leadership & Advocacy (PRIME-LA) program, a track dedicated to improving health disparities and inequities. She also found her voice as a first-generation student, helping amplify and celebrate the first-gen experience among medical trainees.
Dr. Au considers LA her second home and looks forward to building meaningful relationships with the diverse communities that also call LA home. She aspires to become a physician-advocate in both the clinical setting and through health policy initiatives. She has a keen interest in geriatrics, aging, and meaningful end-of-life care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Au can be found exploring the latest coffeeshop or a favorite mom and pop restaurant. She tries to keep up with latest podcasts, Asian-American lit, and foodie trends.
