Mojtaba Akhtari, MD

Dr. Mojtaba Akhtari has recently joined the Jane Anne Nohl Division of Hematology for the Study of Blood Diseases. He attended the Tehran University Medical School and completed residencies at St. Francis Hospital of Evanston, Illinois and Westmoreland General Hospital, Bromley Hospitals in the United Kingdom. He also had hematology training at King’s College Hospital in London, United Kingdom.

Following his Fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University Hospital, Dr. Akhtari joined the faculty of the University of Nebraska. He has been an active investigator participating in research involving myelodysplastic syndromes, acute leukemias, stem cell transplantation as well as graft versus host disease after allogeneic transplantation.

Dr. Akhtari has published articles in Oncology, Immunotherapy and Bone Marrow Transplantation. He sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Chemotherapy, Hematology/Oncology and the Journal of Blood & Lymph, QA Haematology, and Journal of Case Reports in Practice . He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology and the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

In July, 2014, Dr. Akhtari joined the faculty at the Keck School of Medicine of USC where he is Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine. He is an integral member of the Bone Marrow Transplantation service at the Norris Cancer Hospital.
